And here they are. This yarn is one of Allison's and it knits up like a dream. The colourway is perfect for my old man, and I'm really looking forward to getting the red and grey sock yarn that Allison has promised me :) These are my very first pair of socks and I struggled on the grafting - being left handed the instructions didn't make sense. For the second sock I am planning to do a three needle cast off to finish as it will be neater.
Spriteling is still sitting on the table partly done - her ball of yarn, though, has mysteriously disappeared - I think I'm going to have to go for an expedition under my table to retrieve all the stuff that has found it's way off the back and onto the floor :)
I'm currently knitting pure cashmere bonnets and booties for my outwork. Sue Hill is the lady who runs the company and she had a disaster in May when a fire destroyed most of her yarn and all of her stock - absolutely devastating that must have been as everything is so beautiful and such good quality, and there is hours and hours of work in it all.
I'm also in the process of working through my Jane Crowfoot crocheted throw - very late I must admit, and now I know what it will look like and I'm so looking forward to finishing it. I am planning to hang it on a pole over the head of our bed.
I've also got into paper crafting - what more things to do!!!! I have to admit to being absolutely useless at organising myself properly and have a habit of oversubscribing myself and spreading myself too thin - but it is so much fun and I never get bored :)
We are now in the process of getting Alex statemented - all of the experts who have met him have agreed that he is an extremely intelligent child that needs 1:1 intensive support to get the most from his education. I have been taking classes in Autism and how to deal with it, I am working with all sorts of experts, and Alex will be starting Play Therapy this Thursday as the school have managed to secure £700 worth of funding for it from various charities. I am working on saving money to get him an outside den with a ball pool and soft play shapes and mats for his escape place when inside the house gets too much for him. I have also been to visit a special school about 15 miles away, that take only Autistic children - there are only 42 in the school and 12 in the primary section. I'll have a battle with this one, if we get the statement, as it is private and the LA will want to get him into one of their schools - not if I have any say in it.
Wow Claire you have been busy.i feel quite exhausted reading about all you have been up to!I too am doing the Jane Crowfoot blanket but can't get round to finishing it.I did the spriteling shawl but was a bit disappointed with it.I can understand about grafting.i am also left handed but have to graft right handed-very tricky.Hope you get Alex sorted out.You sound very positive about things.happy knitting and crocheting!
ReplyDeleteOh those socks look nice! Apologies that I haven't dyed your new yarn yet - bit of a no dye zone in the Lane household at the moment, I'm planning on doing some this week though. Hopefully there will be something that takes your fancy. I don't know how you find time to do everything - I buy lots of books for different crafts as I love them but I'd never get any work done if I did them all!!

ReplyDeleteYou are doing an amazing job for Alex and it is great to hear you are moving things forward. I was wondering how you were getting on and a bit worried cos we hadn't heard from you. Remember we are all behind you in getting the best for him.
On the test knitting question I just answered a call for help on a blog and was a bit worried at first I wouldn't be able to knit quick enough as there were deadlines but it was ok in the end. Sx
